Lazy NFL Draft Analysis
April 28, 2007 by Run Up The Score!
It’s a very good day for four Nittany Lions. Poz went a little lower than most thought. Jay Alford was an unexpected first-day pick. Levi Brown is going to be much wealthier than he imagined, thanks to Arizona taking him at #5. Finally, Tony Hunt lands with the Eagles, who needed a big back. Black Shoe Diaries has the analysis. Hopefully, Tim Shaw won’t be on the board for long tomorrow.
As for the Eagles taking Kevin Kolb in the second round, they really must have seen something they liked in that kid. The general reaction seems to be more of shock and confusion than any sort of palpable anger. I’ll have more on the Eagles and the draft tomorrow, I’m sure. For now, go check out the best Philly sports blog around, The 700 Level.
Update: I’ll say this about Kolb — he comes across as exactly the kind of quarterback you need in the NFL, if this scouting profile on nfl.com is any indication. The “positives” section goes on forever. I mean, forever. And the leading criticism in the “negatives” section is this gem:
“Has a soft midsection, high-cut calves and thin ankles.”
Oooooh.
Anyway, I’m more than happy to give Kolb a chance. The Eagles drafted four pretty good players today. A quarterback with a ton of potential, a very athletic defensive end, the big running back we’ve been wishing for, and the leader of an excellent Big 12 defense. Not bad.
