Good News For People Who Love Good News
February 6, 2008 by Run Up The Score!
9:00 a.m. update: Don’t forget, you can follow the Letters Of Intent as they roll in over at Fight On State.
9:45 a.m. update: Everything’s coming up snake eyes for PSU today. Deion Walker sent his LOI to Notre Dame, and Michael Shaw shocked a number of PSU folks by committing to Michigan. You may now add running back to the list of glaring needs for Penn State’s recruiting class next year, along with WR, CB, S, and OT.
10:00 a.m. update: I know it’s still early in Celina, Texas, but it is too early for me to start worrying about D’Anton Lynn? Shaw was a big loss for Penn State, and there’s no good way to spin that. Losing Lynn, however, would be crushing.

10:05 a.m. update: Well, that’s a relief. Lynn is in.
10:30 a.m. update: Shaw-nanigans? Despite some Michigan claims that Shaw faxed his LOI to Michigan, they don’t actually have it yet. Or, as FOS’ Flash News feature says, “2008-02-06 10:22:19 Michigan Scout site jumped the gun on Shaw, Penn State still in the game.” Shaw has a press conference scheduled for 1 p.m. His high school is sending a handful of recruits to Michigan, and many of them either received late offers or changed their minds in the past 48 hours. Not liking PSU’s chances here, but who knows. LOI Day is so convoluted and weird.
11:15 a.m. update: Brandon Ware (Harrisburg DT) and Mike Farrell (Pittsburgh OT) are the only outstanding LOI’s for Penn State…if you don’t count Shaw. Or uh, Pryor.
1:20 p.m. update: Shaw to Michigan. Pryor’s press conference can be found here.
2:45 p.m. update: Still nothing on either Mike Farrell (the good one) or Brandon Ware. Which is strange considering they were two guys who were very excited to receive a PSU scholarship offer late in the game. I doubt that anything sinister is happening, but hey, LOI Day is weird like that.
Click ahead for the daily Terrelle Pryor update, which made the title of this post seem much more appropriate when I wrote it last night.
Terrelle Pryor has decided to postpone his press conference and decision, says recruiting-type person, Mike Farrell of Rivals.com:
Terrelle Pryor just called me a few minutes ago and said he’s now not signing tomorrow. He said he’s 100-percent sure he’s not signing. He said he’s going to take an official visit to Penn State for sure, hopefully a weekend visit, and might visit Oregon. He said he is just not sure of his choice as of right now.
He has had numerous discussions with his father who really likes the way Penn State has recruited Terrelle. Penn State has been to Terrelle’s father’s house numerous times and had done a good job making him feel comfortable that PSU is the right place for his son.
…
Good news for PSU fans here no doubt.

It’s been said multiple times here, as well as other places. If Pryor delays the decision, it can only be a good thing for Penn State and can only be a bad thing for the Buckeyes.
Over on the FOS boards, Potterlion flagged this staggering (in a good way!) Detroit News item:
“They’re starting to creep up on me,” Pryor said of Penn State to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Wednesday morning, as five television trucks set up shop at Jeannette (Pa.) High.
A news conference was scheduled for noon at the high school and reporters from as far away as Washington and Detroit planned on attending.
Pryor was asked why he was going through with the news conference if he hadn’t made up his mind.
“My principal still wants me to do it because everyone drove here,” he told the newspaper. “I know there are going to be a lot of questions why.”
Michigan and Ohio State were considered the front-runners to land Pryor before this latest surge by Penn State.
“My dad likes them a lot,” Pryor said of the Nittany Lions. “He wants me to look into them.”
Pryor told the Post-Gazette that his father doesn’t sense the “trust” in some coaches recruiting him that he sees in Penn State.
“Penn State has done a lot,” Pryor said. “They showed up a lot more. They recruited me a lot more. They’ve sent pages upon pages of handwritten letters.”

I hope he goes to Oregon if he doesn’t go to Penn State.
I couldn’t bear two or three years of Penn State playing Ohio State or Michigan with Pryor and the endless Henne-type “one who got away” stories.
Did Mike Farrell “accidentally” showup at a house on Dateline’s “To Catch a Predator”? He certainly has a high “creep” factor.
And the Post-Gazette continues their run of awesome journalistic integrity. Also, (and I only did this because I’m traveling), I noticed a picture in the USA Today this morning of Pryor with a caption and story about how he is picking “between OSU and UM”. No mention whatsoever of PSU or Oregon.
I’m telling you guys, Pryor is going to Slippery Rock.
Oregon is probably best situation for him to develop but it’s 3000+ miles away.
I hope he comes to PSU, if he does expect PD to transfer.
i can handle losing shaw-we still have beechum plus a very good OL.
lynn on the other hand-we need the new blood in the secondary. plus, any time we can take a recruit away from florida, osu, and usc, it is truly a good day.
welcome aboard d’anton!
oregon is no longer on the list, from what i hear (which, i guess, means nothing, but for some reason I believe this when i read it).
Now that he’s pretending to like us, are we supposed to pretend that Pryor is a choir-boy? Looking for input from you, superhomers!
I had a feeling since Shaw was at the UM b-ball game a few weeks ago w/ Pryor that he would bounce PSU to UM.
I am never worried about RB at PSU, we have Beechem, Green, Royster (only Jr. next year) and if needs present Dwill can also play RB/scat back.
Lynn is huge for this class
Royster will be a sophomore in eligibility next season.
As far as Terrelle Pryor goes - I believe that we superhomers (and just the fact that you would use that term on thisblog shows that you either do not understand the term OR you are on the RUTS payroll) - were quick to discount Terrelle as a diva - as we would label just about any kid who picks tosu and now Dickie Rod’s wolverines. But, if the kid is being sincere in his most recent statements - then maybe he’s not the prima donna we thought him to be - He’s a good student, an amazing athlete (also 4 star basketball recruit), and his Dad seems to have impeccable taste. Or maybe Joe promised that he’d let Terrelle pick his successor as head coach.
ware isn’t onboard yet? what’s the holdup? somebody dangle some hohos in front of him.
i actually think he is one of the gems of this class-LJ Sr. will turn him into a beast.
I mean the stuff about him being a cheaty mcclasslesspants. Are we as bad as MGoBlog’s commenters? I’d like to think not, but I fear so.
I haven’t looked back at the comments yet, but wasn’t most of the bitterness directed toward Ohio State and not Pryor himself?
Even on the Michigan sites right now, some people are pleading for UM to pull Pryor’s scholarship offer. Ohio State fans are suddenly saying “we don’t need him anyway”. It’s the same for every single program — when it comes to recruiting, people tend to jump off the deep end with every tidbit of news, myself included.
Also, I generally don’t find MGoBlog commenters to be that bad at all. When a post gets 400+ comments, some are bound to be unsavory, for lack of a better word.
If we thought Ohio State was cheating to land Pryor, we also thought that Pryor was willing to accept those gifts (in other words, cheat) in order to be landed. Remember the Corvette picture?
I think you’re trying too hard. Look for yourself:

http://runupthescore.wordpress.com/2008/01/30/paterno-visits-terrelle-pryor/
“Although the evidence points toward Terrelle Pryor being hand-delivered to Ohio State thanks to Ted Sarniak and a hardworking-but-shady OSUV coaching staff,”
Yes, that’s what the circumstantial evidence pointed toward at that time. It’s not like anybody had a copy of a cancelled check or a $1 per month lease agreement like Billy Owens supposedly had for his Corvette back in the day.
I still don’t see the problem.
So what’s your point?
We love a kid (or at least try to learn to love) if he chooses Penn State.
Any kid who doesn’t even consider PSU is obviously dimwitted and his parents may possibly be guilty of child abuse/neglect.
Any kid who gets an offer from PSU and then chooses another school is clearly deluded and is advised by ignorant, unscrupulous, people.
Any kid who gets an offer from PSU and then chooses another Big Ten team is a communist, ugly, cheater, poo head.
Any kid who gets an offer from PSU and then either verbally commits or acts as though he will and then chooses another team will never be forgiven and his career will be followed with much malign and appalachian/sicilian voodoo.
Okay?
Ware and Farrell got their LOI’s in according to FOS Flash News.
Sleeps with the fishes, see?
glad that ware is on board.
so now we have 14 commits. if pryor decides not to enroll at psu (crazy as that sounds), who gets #15?
How about Nate Eachus? Is he in at Navy?
i say we get that tunny o’hanlon fella. heard he decommitted from notre dame because of “tha fibbin fat bastad”, and that beer prices were significantly lower in happy valley.
http://www.bluegraysky.com/tunney/a.z.htm
If we thought the kid was a cheater before when we were sure he was going to Ohio State, we’re not any better than Ohio State if we now say he’s a fine upstanding lad because he’s just talking about maybe thinking about coming here.
I, for one, LIKE thinking I’m better than the scum at tOSU and what appears to be taking over Michigan. Don’t you?
I just want to win at any cost…just like Miami in the 80’s or UNLV BB in the 90’s.
The program is already heading that way…right M1EK?
I hate these PSU Homers…Losers!
I recently purchased a case of RPGs and black-market AK-47s for the team, and have an inside guy working on some full length full coats.
Whatever it takes to get 5-star talent here! Call me the Snowman, ’cause I’ll get us six-foot deep snowdrifts, if you know what I mean…. sniff!
Okay, I don’t know that anyone was blaming Pryor for being a man-child with football programs making bad decisions in an effort to lure him, I think people were curious as to the strange relationship between Sarniak and OSU. Part of the problem is no one can really get a bead on what he’s thinking, so in the absence of info, they start making up their own.
LOI day rules!
I really don’t think that I am better than any other sports fan -
I’m luckier because the football gods deemed me worthy of Penn State -
Not that I’m concerned or anything, but where is beechum’s LOI?
And remember, STL, “it was just a fight”! I can’t believe Scirotto couldn’t have used that argument in court - he must have some pretty poor legal counsel, huh?
//Not that I’m concerned or anything, but where is beechum’s LOI?//
He was too busy being in English 15 class today to send it - he’s already enrolled and on campus as a student, so no need to LOI. Same for Mauti.
RUTS? exactly how much are you paying this guy to troll your blog? do you offer benefits?
For Scirrotto it isn’t even a “fight” anymore - if he pleads guilty to the charges currently standing - it’s a “entered into a dwelling disinvited and fussed a little”.
M1EK do you walk into bars looking for a fight?
I hope we get Pryor because otherwise the recruiting on the offensive side of the ball was atrocious this year.

Hooray, top posts!
PSUGirl: I offer all-you-can-eat Mrs. T’s pierogies and homebrew. That’s enough for most people.
Run, don’t forget your cinderella run in the Hot Blogger tournament last year. So you’ve got that going for ya, which is nice.
29 M1EK
And remember, STL, “it was just a fight”! I can’t believe Scirotto couldn’t have used that argument in court - he must have some pretty poor legal counsel, huh?
———-
I agree M1EK these PSU thugs should be expelled for any offense above jay-walking, the law needs to laid down by Joe Pa to restore order. I have been saying for months “PSU is the new Miami” and got blasted by all the PSUHomers…fools!
I think AS could have used the services of RUTS for legal counsel, he got an A in criminal law.
Here’s how the Scirotto trial REALLY went down…
RUTS: Point of parliamentary procedure!
Anthony Scirotto: Don’t screw around, they’re serious this time!
RUTS: Take it easy, I’m pre-law.
A.S.: I thought you were pre-med.
RUTS: What’s the difference?
RUTS: Ladies and gentlemen, I’ll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or threw a few punches at some jerk off kids - we did.
But you can’t hold a whole football team responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn’t we blame the whole Big Ten system? And if the whole Big Ten system is guilty, then isn’t this an indictment of the NCAA in general? I put it to you, Centre County Judge Guy - isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we’re not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America!!!
// don’t forget your cinderella run in the Hot Blogger tournament last year //
I was like George Mason, and you know what? I was actually robbed in that match against Sports Gone South because one of his readers set up some sort of automated voting…bot…thing. Unbeknownst to my opponent, who even offered to forfeit and is a much better man and writer than me.
I can’t properly describe my love for the fake Tunney O’Hanlon Scout profile — that’s always been one of my favorites. You can’t beat “skull thickness”.
I hate you, M1EK. I mean, I really hate you.
So, there you go. Most people can go to bed at night assuming that no one genuinely hates them. You can no longer do that.
That ship sailed a LOOOOONG time ago, anonymous coward.
No reason to hate, he keeps things interesting and gets the peeps fired up.
He is the kind of guy who will debate anything just to be an A$$, we all know those kind of people. Annoying yes but harmless…doesn’t mean I don’t want to punch him in the face sometimes, but don’t hate.
