Tim Curley does not share your sense of urgency regarding the Joe Paterno contract situation.
Curley said he spoke with Paterno over the past week, but declined to go into more detail.
“Those discussions are going to continue,” Curley said. “Once we feel like we have something to report, we’ll report out at that time.”
…
Curley said he didn’t view spring practice, which starts in two weeks, as a deadline.
“I don’t think there’s any deadline that’s super-imperative right now,” Curley said. “Obviously, when spring practice starts he gets pretty tied up and pretty focused. … I wouldn’t put a deadline on it. I don’t think it has to be done before spring practice.”
Not that this is particularly illuminating, by any means. What’s Curley supposed to say — that the contract absolutely must get done by the Blue/White game?
I still can’t shake the feeling that if something positive for Joe Paterno or Tom Bradley was being negotiated, it would’ve been announced a long time ago. It’s increasingly easy to think that Paterno’s ability to control the situation left town a year ago.
I really would like to know how much input Tim Curley has on this decision. Everything is Spanier v. Paterno, and nobody really seems to know or care what Curley’s role is, other than having this guy over for a slumber party:

I personally think Joe is scrambling around trying to help out his staff behind the scenes. He could have announced Bradley and got away w/ it a few years ago, not now…he lost the battle…and knows it.
If he had any plans of hooking up TB it should have been done before the recruiting season and not let it drag on. Who knows how much Joe is really liked behind the scenes, he can be perceived as a power monger who won’t let go by the younger blood and they want their stamp on the program’s direction.
I’ve watched the way that Spanier operates for sometime now. I can tell you that he’ll make the decision, but if he thinks it may be an unpopular one he’ll put Curley’s face on it.
This is Joe being selfish; he’s doing all he can to save his son & keep him employed all the while not caring about Scrap.
Joe had no problem screwing over Sandusky; and he has no problem screwing over Bradley. Joe is all about his son and that’s it.
He hand picked his son jobs with other NCAA teams; Jay kept loosing them so Joe finally brought him on board. Joe will do all he can to assure that long after he’s gone Jay is untouchable.
I swear; if I win the powerball tonight I’ll offer the University $5 million to fire Jay and assure he can never EVER have any contact with the program again….
Powerball is only at $5 mil? I don’t follow that kind of thing much, but I always remember the billboards being bigger than that.
I do know, however, that it benefits older Pennsylvanians every day.
*yawn*
Move along people, nothing to see here. Anyone expecting Spanier to fire Joe or force him to resign (or whatever) shouldn’t hold their breath.
Likely scenario: two or three year contract, with a succession plan naming Bradley as coach.
Big 11th
Actually, powerball is up to 230 Million.
I’d only give $5 to get rid of Jay Pud…
The rest would be spent on alchohol…and I’d buy the Sports Cafe in downtown state college that just went under.
Re-open it and be a bumm
Isn’t LaVar Arrington buying that place?
Might be able to buy it cheap, too:

Nah LaVaar is not buying the sports cafe…I did some homework on this subject matter.
The current owner owes the bank like $500k and they owe other people money too. they weren’t paying employees and a few other mishaps
It has a liqour license and that’s hard to find in state college.
Lavar is opening a club in PG County, Md.

PG county is real nice…if you like to get shot or have your car stolen.
Liquor license would easily be worth a half mil. They certainly aren’t making any more of them for the borough of State College….
Christ, the new theater on College Ave is getting hassled by the city council about trying to sell wine before shows.
Sweep: When I was a kid, we made fun of PG because of Waldorf and Bowie, whereas now it is Ward 8 east or Ward 9.
WFY - I was a cop in DC and would never go to PG unless I was armed. Had some buds in the Bowie area, although the town center area is nice.
It doesn’t look that bad but things turn bad in a hurry there, always shootings, car-jacking, or other BS.
