Shouldn’t all you yinzers be thanking your lucky stars that Ed Rendell prevented you from rooting for the Kansas City Penguins? Honestly, to hear all of you come out of the woodwork now is priceless.
You are certainly the better team on paper and as the number 2 seed in the east should win the series. All the while you are trying to stamp out that little voice in the back of your head reminding you of three little things: (1) history - that the Penguins have never beaten the flyers in a playoff series; (2) doubt - did our team get beat that last game or were they really ducking the Flyers?; and finally, (3) nightmares - how many times have you woken up in a cold sweat after watching Keith Primeau roof that puck in OT in 2000?
Should be a great series….GO FLYERS!
What’s funny is that eveything you just posted means nothing to how this series will play out. You sound like a Pitt can when you brag about winning the last game against the Pens. If we want to talk about these types of pointless topics, let’s discuss how the Flyers are 5-11 against the Pens the last two years. Or we could talk about real things like the Pens being 8-1 in the playoffs. Or how Philly is the most penalized team so far and the Pens have scored at least one PP goal in 8 games this postseason.

I certainly recognize that past success does not equte to future performance (but its always fun to point out when you are on the upside of it - and by the way my “snapshot” was ever in history yours was two years).
As for penalties, have you watched any of the Flyers games? Probably not. I am certainly not going to whine about officiating being one sided but it was just plain awful in both (for both sides). Now we don’t have the Captain of the Canadien Diving Team so of course our +/- in penalties will be slightly skewed in comparison to our western PA counterparts.
Honestly, your team is good if not great, there is little to dispute. The pick up of Hossa at the deadline was a gamechanger. In addition, sucking as bad as you did for as long as you did to get so many top draft picks is finally paying off (Crosby/Malkin).
I think you are discounting the Flyers a bit though. Biron has been lights out thus far in the post-season. Much like my own feelings on past Flyers playoff teams (Esche, Nitty, etc.), if I were a Penguins fan and had to hang my hopes on Theo Fleury I would be a little concerned. The Flyers are a much better team than the ones you’ve played so far.

I love how Flyers fans complain that we got great players because the Pens sucked for so long. Yeah, guess what? That’s the way the system is built. Wasn’t it just last year the Flyers sucked so bad? Of course, now there is free agency unlike when the Pens went through their bad years so teams can turn things around much quicker.
Say what you want about Crosby, but nobody plays harder or is more talented than him…and you would kill to have him.

I’m not dismissive of the Flyers. I think they can win the series actually. I don’t think they will if the Penguins play at the level they should, but Philly has a very good team that is on fire. My problem is with the fans taking pot shots already…so I’m just taking some back.

Jeez Corabi I apologize for getting you all wound up. Having gone to Penn State (and Altoona for two years) the majority of my friends are actually Pens fans and we tend to trade jabs about our teams. I didn’t realize you were going to take it so personally.
Also, I wasn’t whining about either the Pens drafting high or the officiating if you read my post. Was I taking a shot at the Pens and how they sucked for a while..yes (seemed reasonable while trading insults)! I also was just noting how the officiating sucked in general not that it was biased against the Flyers. So save your conspiracy theory nonsense for someone else.
I do disagree about Crosby. There are two people I would rather have over him and one is on your team. I have all the respect in the world for Malkin and would kill to have him on the Flyers. I think he is the best player on the Penguins and quite easily the best player in the NHL. He carried that team when Sidney was hurt and plays every shift with incredible passion. Watching the Pens/Caps series this season where him and Ovechkin (who I would also rather have than Sidney) tried to take eachothers heads off for 60 minutes was just awesome. The kid plays with fire. The Pens certainly need to focus on resigning him.
Also I completely agree with JD…on paper the Pens are clearly the better team, which I tried to express in my first post. I think the Flyers are playing great hockey right now and thus we will have a great series.
I honestly think the reason the PSU football fans are so great is that they come from two very passionate fanbases for Philly and Pittsburgh and when combined create some of the most knowledgable and loyal fans anywhere in the country.
But seriously…if you liken me to a Pitt fan one more time we are going to have problems! haha! My god…call me a pedophile (or Roger Clemens) and I would be less offended!

Flyers/Pens series are always great. I would love to be in State College for it…I remember watching that 2000 series and staying up until like 3 in the morning with a 8 a.m. stat final the next day. Man I miss college!
