Yes, there’s always the matter of (1) how much stock you put in anyone’s preseason predictions, and (2) how much stock you put in Phil Steele particularly…but I happen to think he’s one of the best in the business. So this is encouraging.

What do you think? I suppose the logical choices would be “too high” or “just right”. Preliminarily, I believe that PSU has a legitimate shot at an at-large BCS bid, but like most other programs in that #8-#20 range, there are a number of breaks that will have to go our way — a road win at Wisconsin being high on that list.

Yeah. Didn’t he have us in his preseason top 10 last year? How did that work out?

SPOILER ALERT!
Orson gave these away last week:
10. Penn State.
9. Georgia
8. USF
7. Missouri
6. West Virginia
5. Clemson
4. USC
3. Oklahoma
2. Ohio State
1. Florida
I mean, the guy is smart, but USF one spot ahead of UGA?

@BSD
— I don’t think anyone could have predicted that AM would have regressed that much, he seemed like he was ready to take a big step up…not back.
I think the 07 squad suffered from lack of leadership at all levels. Conner was a great player…never saw him as a leader like Lee.

Well, if you take away Morelli melting down vs. Illinois and the coaches’ brains turning to mush in the last three minutes against MSU, you have a 10-2 season.
Not that you can take any of those things away, but…

Also, I really can’t wait for Georgia to suck this year.

He has Notre Dame at #19? He always was a bold predictor.

Yikes, #10? Probably a tad high considering we have to prove ourselves after performing below expectations a year ago…I’d probably have us around #15 if it were up to me.
I bought the Lindy’s preview last week, they have Georgia #1 so it’s interesting to see quite a sharp contrast between them and Phil Steele having them 9th. It always seems though that UGA never quite lives up to expectations so maybe Steele’s onto something with his ranking.

“I don’t think anyone could have predicted that AM would have regressed that much, he seemed like he was ready to take a big step up…not back.”
I did. Well, not precisely; I didn’t buy the BS about how he was great in the Outback Bowl, so to me he didn’t regress. With Clark we have had nearly nothing to see, so it’ll be much more of an honest surprise rather than people just being delusionally optimistic like with Morelli’s bowl game.

Clemson will completely crap the bed, as usual, no matter how many great RB’s they have. VT should win the ACC. Texas seems too low.
For the record, I’d start us a bit lower than #10. But, if we can run the table at home (very possible) and split on the road in conference, then guess what - we’re probably in the top 10 at year-end.
Hooray for football!

M1EK, people did get a wee bit delusional about AM. One big game where you don’t throw a back-breaking pick or fumble inside your own 20 yard line, while completing a couple of nice long passes & a very nice throw on a key 4th down should = an average game for a good quarterback.
Nothing stellar, and not the second coming of Kerry Collins.
Ah, hindsight.

I lean towards “too high”, but that’s because I’ve been overly optimistic the last two years and am not doing that again. But I think we have a legitimate shot to be really really good.

this is just enough to get me nervously anxious (not just regular anxious, but better) - (or at least it was when I posted about it a week ago).
